Recently Minisforum launched their first mini PC with Ryzen 6000 series mini PC, the UM690. It has Ryzen 9 6900HX CPU and Radeon 680M graphics. It is not only the strongest chip equipped in their products so far, but also the most powerful mobile chip in AMD Ryzen 6000 series. How much better does it outperform the ryzen 9 5900HX CPU.
According to AMD, the AMD Ryzen 9 6900HX is a processor based on the Rembrandt generation. It is based on the Zen 3+ microarchitecture with 8 cores and 16 threads. They are clocked at 3.3GHz and can be boosted up to 4.9GHz. The chip is manufactured on the modern 6 nm TSMC process.
On the other hand, the AMD Ryzen 9 5900HX is a processor based on the Cezanne generation. It integrates all eight cores based on the Zen 3 micro architecture and it is clocked at 3.3 to 4.6 GHz. The chip is manufactured on the 7 nm TSMC process.
The most important difference is the integrated GPU. The Ryzen 9 6900HX comes with a Radeon 680M graphics, which is based on the RDNA2 architecture and offers 12 CUs at up to 2.4 GHz. It is a big improvement over AMD’s previous 5000 series CPU. The Ryzen 9 5900HX integrates a Radeon RX Vega 8 integrated graphics card with 8 CUs and can run up to 2.1 GHz.
Other than the integrated graphics, the Ryzen 9 6900HX supports USB4, PCIe Gen 4 and DDR5 memory. USB4 type-C features up to 40Gb/s Transfer Speeds. Twice as fast as the maximum speed of USB 3.2 port. It also supports 8k video output at 60Hz. Combing with the other 2 HDMI ports on the mini PC, the UM690 mini PC can connect with 3 monitors at the same time. PCIe Gen 4 doubles the speed of PCIe Gen 3. The UM690 has a PCIe 4.0 x4 lanes port that supports 8Gb/s data transfer. DDR5 memory, compared to DDR4’s, delivers a 50% frequency increase to 4800MHz.

Although Ryzen 9 6900HX is more powerful than Ryzen 9 5900HX, it is more expensive as well. Minisforum has mini PCs that equipped with these two CPUs.
